RSO will write music and lyrics for Disney’s upcoming stage musical, Freaky Friday, it was announced mid-March.
Based on the original body-switch novel by Mary Rodgers and the film adaptations starring Jodi Foster and Barbara Harris (1976) and more recently, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis (2003) as a warring mother and daughter who experience a freaky day living in the other’s body.
The musical version will be directed by Christopher Ashley (Memphis, Xanadu, The Rocky Horror Picture Show) and features a book written by television screenwriter and playwright Bridget Carpenter (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights).
Freaky Friday, which will be developed by Tom Schumacher and Disney Theatricals, is slated for a “Page-to-Stage” workshop at La Jolla Playhouse in spring 2012.
