RSO’s latest project is 35MM, a multimedia “musical exhibition” in which photographic images inspire music and lyrics, and inversely music and lyrics inspire photographs.
The piece is made up of more than twenty songs and nearly 35 images by photographer Matthew Murphy. Some songs will elicit numerous photographs in one and others will be inspired by a diptych or triptych (two or three photographs displayed together to create one unified image). The exhibition is orchestrated for six voices (three women, three men), and six players (viola/violin, cello, guitars, basses, percussion, and synthesizer).
Murphy is a writer and photographer living in New York City. Following an early career as a dancer with American Ballet Theatre, he now contributes work to Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit Magazine, Movmnt Magazine, Playbill, and Vogue online. Additionally, his photographs can frequently be seen in The New York Times where he is a freelancer specializing in performance photography.
