Complete cast set for first reading of ALIVE AT TEN
On April 3rd, NYU-Tisch's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program will present a reading of the new RSO musical Alive at Ten, a wicked musical comedy based on the story of Pamela Smart, with book by Kirsten A. Guenther and music and lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver.
"Ever since she can remember, Kimberly "Kimmie" Sharp has dreamed that she would one day become America's next beloved media personality á la Barbara Walters. Just one problem: she's stuck in a dead end job teaching at the local high school, and her discouraging, undermining husband would prefer she stay that way. But Kimmie's not fazed; once she sets her mind to something, you can bet her husband's life it will happen. It's just the story of a woman and her dream, and her sheer determination to make it come true at all costs-- even if it means manipulation, seducation, and/or murder. Dreams don't die... but people do."
Jayne Paterson will star as the devilishly lovable Kimberly. Ms. Paterson was the final Fantine in the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, appeared on Broadway in Jane Eyre, and most recently starred Off-B’way in Jacques Brel. Also cast for the reading are Mike McGowan (the revival of The Apple Tree) as Kimberly's husband Kevin, Donna Vivino as McKenzie (Martin Short’s Fame Becomes Me and B’way’s original Young Cosette), Nick Spangler (currently Off-B’way in The Fantasticks) as star-cross’d student Jake, Kyle Dean Massey (currently playing Matthew Off-B’way in Altar Boyz) as Charlie, Kevin David Thomas (Les Misérables tour) as Noah, and Mary Ann Schaub.
The invitation-only reading is directed by Jessica Bauman and will be music directed by Vadim Feichtner (music director for original productions of Spelling Bee, Elegies: A Song Cycle, and Infinite Joy).
